GU FAMILY BOOK (Episode 19)

A flashback begins the episode.  Yoon Seo Hwa is looking at a group of men talking.  Wearing a tired, fuming mad face with a dagger in her hand, she walks towards them.

The Japanese guest is surprised to see Seo Hwa who suddenly attacks Jo Kwan Woong with her dagger - which Wol Ryung was supposed to use to stab her to save himself from becoming a thousand year demon.

Jo Kwan Woong was hit on his left cheek.  Seo Hwa is set to kill him when Deputy Seo slashed her.  Jo Kwan Woong was sent for treatment while Seo Hwa fell on the ground, unattended.  The Japanese merchant checks if Seo Hwa is already dead then covers her face with a handkerchief.  When Deputy Seo asked him, the Japanese said she is dead.  Later, a group of Japanese guards asks for Seo Hwa’s body.

At present, Choi Kang Chi is in chains after Jo Kwan Woong schemed to catch him.  Jo Kwan Woong is telling the Japanese merchant about Kang Chi’s identity.  Obviously, Jo Kwan Woong still wants to prove to himself that the Japanese lady merchant is Yoon Seo Hwa.
Using Kang Chi, he thinks he will surely find out.  Jo Kwan Woong reiterates that Kang Chi is the son of a divine creature and a human making him half-human, half-mythical creature.
To prove them he is right, the retired officer orders his men to take off Kang Chi’s bracelet.   Then Kang Chi transforms in front of the GoongBon group with Ja Hong Myeong trying hard to control her feelings for her kid.

The lady merchant remembers her child in the Moonlight Garden.  Then Jo Kwan Woong interrupts her thoughts asking if this is the child she is looking for. But just as she was about to answer, Kang Chi collapsed!

Head gisaeng Cheon interrogates Dop Gan and learned that Wol San blackmailed her.  Wol San told her to bring Kang Chi or else she will report Cheong Jo for hiding a thief.  The head gisaeng sent Master Dam a report, which also reached Yeo Wool and Cheong Jo through Gon Yi.

Hearing Kang Chi is in trouble, Yeo Wool picks up her sword to rescue the man she loves.  Gon persuades Yeo Wool from doing unnecessary action without the master’s consent.  But Yeo Wool said that if Kang Chi doesn't come back on his own, it means things are rough for him and he is possibly severely injured.

Gon reminds her that Kang Chi can cure himself and can’t die.  But panicking Yeo Wool raises her voice at Gon saying it doesn't mean Kang Chi couldn't get hurt. She stress that Kang Chi bleeds when stabbed, he also gets bruise and scars.  Further, she tells Gon no one can stop her.  Gon tries stop her and accidentally holds her in her arms but Yeo Wool warns her not to touch her again or they will end up in a fight.  As Yeo Wool is about to leave, Cheong Jo stops her saying she needs to tell her that Kang Chi’s mother may still be alive.

Jo Kwan Woong asks  Ja Hong Myeong what to do with Kang Chi.  The lady merchant stressed that all she wants are the maps they have lost.

Then Jo Kwan Woong provokes Ja Hong Myeong saying she wouldn't bother if he beats Kang Chi to death or strangle him and that she doesn't care as long as she gets the map.

The lady merchant raises her voice telling that child is neither human nor divine, adding that whatever Jo Kwan Woong do to Kang Chi is the retired officer’s business and not hers. All she wants are the maps.

The fiery face of the lady merchant, however, changes when her eyes set on pitiful Kang Chi who is looking at her.  As Ja Hong Myeong leaves, Kang Chi looks on.

In her room, Ja Hong Myeong remembers the time she first met Kang Chi then falls on her knees and weeps.

Jo Kwan Woong is impressed at how long Kang Chi kept his identity hidden.  He tells Kang Chi that he had him drink toxic liquor that would cause his mind to mess up while his body will lose control and start hemorrhaging.  He asks Kang Chi if the maps are in the hands of those Master Dam or has it already fall on the hands of the Admiral.  But instead of giving an answer, Kang Chi attacks the retired official who is shocked with Kang Chi’s unbelievable strength. Because he is chained, Kang Chi couldn't reach Jo Kwan Woong.

Jo Kwan Woong tries to insult Kang Chi saying his monster side is probably the reason why he was abandoned in the river that even after 20 years of seeing her son, his mother is cold and unaffectionate.  Kang Chi is puzzled on this revelation.  The retired official reveals the name of Yoon Seo Hwa but did not divulge other information.  He also tells Kang Chi that the more he moves, the more it becomes painful for him because the poison becomes more potent.  When Kang Chi screams in pain, Ja Hong Myeong is awakened.

Meanwhile, head gisaeng Cheon gives Park Tae Seo an antidote that must be administered within 24 hours to Kang Chi.  Tae Seo asks Eok Man and Choi Ma Reum to check the compound of the Hundred Year Inn to find out where they are keeping Kang Chi.  Then he had had order the kitchen staff to cook rice balls and include the antidote that must be delivered to Kang Chi before sunset.

At the academy, Madam Yeo Joo checks on Yeo Wool and is surprised to see the young lady in her warrior uniform.  The teacher tries to stop Yeo Wool saying she should ask permission first from Master Dam.  But her student ask her if she ever liked someone with all her heart, the one that is in her head and mind, the one that makes her smile, if he smiles or gets her teary-eyed when he cries and just being by his side makes one's life complete and feel safe.  Yeo Wool stressed that Kang Chi is that kind of person to her.  Then the governess allows Yeo Wool to go.  Gon soon finds out.
Yeo Wool sees gangster Ma Bong Chool.  She introduces herself and makes a request.  But Ma Bong Chool tells her that he don’t give in to requests unless there is money involved.  Then Yeo Wool invites Bong Chool to rob the Hundred Year Inn to take Choi Kang Chi out.

At the Hundred Year Inn, Choi Ma Reum enters the storage where Kang Chi is hidden.  He explains to the guard that he has rice balls sent by the head of Goong Bon.
Ma Reum distributes the rice balls to the guards and later asks permission to the head guard to feed Kang Chi. The guard picks up a riceball and throws it on the floor. Ma Reum tells the guard that Kang Chi is in chains so he will help him.
Up close, Ma Reum is surprised to see Kang Chi’s features.  Kang Chi, recognizing his father, reveals that he is in terrible pain and might soon die.  Hearing this, teary-eyed Ma Reum opens the rice ball to feed Kang Chi and discreetly shows him the antidote.  Kang Chi sees the antidote and is ready to eat, but the cruel guard pushed Ma Reum.
The food drops and rolls on the floor while Ma Reum was thrown out of the storage.  The cruel head guard tells Kang Chi to eat with his mouth like a cub.  Kang Chi tries to go after the riceball but couldn’t reach it because of the chains even if he uses his mouth.  Worse, the cruel guard kicks the food away from Kang Chi.

On the other side of the Hundred Year Inn, Jo Kwan Woong tells Ja Hong Myeong that he is planning to let the whole town know that Kang Chi is an  offspring of a gumiho.  Then he will let the public stone him to death and immediately file a petition to court against Admiral Lee Soon Sin for taking care of Kang Chi.
He boasts that it is not just an ordinary petition because he has connections close to the Prime Minister.  He also invited the lady merchant to witness how the gumiho cub will die.

As soon as Jo Kwan Woong exits, Ja Hong Myeong asks Pil Mok that he should be killed.  But the latter tells her that they still need his assistance and reminds her of her allegiance to the Miyamoto family and she should not let her personal feelings affect the mission.

Outside, Jo Kwan Woong hears Ma Bong Chool and his gang creating protests in the Hundred Year Inn.  Ma Bong Chool is asking Jo Kwan Woong to pay them for their services and for getting stabbed plus they should get extra fees for their losses.  The retired officer refuses to pay leading Bong Chool to tell his men to squat in the middle of the inn until they are paid.

At the storage, the guards inside was called to go out because of the commotion.  Three guards were left to guard Kang Chi.
As soon as the door closes, an arrow hits one of them.  Kang Chi is surprised to see his girlfriend rescuing him. Yeo Wool jumps from the second floor and faces the remaining guards with her sword. Though I don't get this part because it is to Yeo Wool's advantage to use her skills in archery in a very advantageous position but the script tells her to jump. Oh well.
Yeo Wool fights while Kang Chi is trying to get the riceball but it rolls around the storage as it is accidentally kicked every now and then by those involved in the fight.

Outside, Jo Kwan Woong’s guards arrive.  They aim their swords to Bong Chool and his men to stand but the gang leader orders his men to stay still.  Bong Chool keeps blabbering on his wants and stays on the floor.  However, Jo Kwan Woong noticed him looking at a certain direction and follows it.

Yeo Wool fights hard against the two guards while Kang Chi is still chained, getting weaker. Then suddenly, the riceball rolls down in front of Kang Chi, the same time Jo Kwan Woong and his men enter the storage room!  Yeo Wool gets arrested and so is Bong Chool who was presented to them beaten black and blue.

Jo Kwan Woong tells Yeo Wool that her tricks will not work on him.  Yeo Wool questions the retired officer for tying an innocent man but the latter claims he is a monster. Yeo Wool insults the official saying she thinks the monster is Jo Kwan Woong which caused the latter to slap her hard.

Yeo Wool gets arrested and tied in one of the pillars. Kang Chi is fuming mad but couldn't help his girlfriend as he remains weak.  But unknown to Jo Kwan Woong, Kang Chi has taken already the antidote.
Park Tae Seo receives the report that Jo Kwan Woong is presenting Kang Chi to the public.  He remembers what head gisaeng Cheon told him to do – that in case Jo Kwan Woong uses Kang Chi to get to the Admiral, it must be stopped at all cost.
Soon, Jo Kwan Woong is presenting Kang Chi to the people inside the Hundred Year Inn.
He orders his men to send Kang Chi to town so the people will stone him to death.  Choi Ma Reum suddenly begs to Jo Kwan Woong to spare his son.  But the wicked retired official ignores his plea and orders his men to send Kang Chi out.  Ma Reum gets dragged to the side and kicked by the soldiers as Kang Chi begs them to stop.  But they didn't listen.  Seeing how his father gets beaten, Kang Chi becomes more infuriated.

Using all his strength, Kang Chi breaks the chain and knocks down all the guards around them.  He is about to attack Jo Kwan Woong when his body shows sign of weakness.  Jo Kwan Woong advise him not to under estimate the power of toxic liquor he gave him.  But Kang Chi retaliates that its okay because there is plenty of time to kill the official before he dies.  He goes after Jo Kwan Woong when Kageshima blocks him.
After a fight, Kang Chi, whose body is getting weaker by the minute, falls on his knees and gives up.
He then sees Kageshima moves to give way to a lady wearing a beautiful hanbok  - Ja Hong Myeong.  Kang Chi remembers what Jo Kwan Woong said about his mother abandoning him before he fell unconscious.  Then Jo Kwan Woong orders  Kang Chi to be sent to town.

Wearing a black and magenta hanbok with embroidered flowers, Ja Hong Myeong, seeing the commotion in front of her, orders everyone to stop.  She suddenly look at Jo Kwan Woong and confess her real identity – she is Yoon Seo Hwa, the one Jo Kwan Woong killed 20 years ago.  Now that he knows her true identity, Seo Hwa dares Jo Kwan Woong what will he do. Everyone is surprised in this unexpected revelation including Kageshima.

Choi Ma Reum and Yoon Seo Hwa are talking about Choi Kang Chi who is sleeping in front of them.  Seo Hwa, after hearing the names of the people who took care of her son, requests Ma Reum to keep her identity a secret to Kang Chi.
The two elders leave the room.  Unknown to them, Kang Chi was listening to their conversation.Master Dam suggests to the Admiral to kill Jo Kwan Woong as his evil works are getting worse daily but the higher officer reveals that the retired officer’s death doesn't mean the fight would be over plus they still need to find out who are the allies of the Japanese merchants.
Master Dam tells the Admiral that Monk So Jeong visited him recently and warns him about Wol Ryung losing his memories.  He said once Wol Ryung forgets everything, indiscriminate slaughter will begin.  He added that no one can stop Wol Ryeong except Kang Chi, his son.  Unfortunately, Wol Ryeong has already started killing people.

After seeing her son, Lady Ja Hong Myeong went to see Park Tae Seo asking him his allegiance to the Goongbon merchant group.
She requests him to abandon his past and pledge loyalty to the group.  She adds that Park Tae Seo is serving a country that has never taken care of its people just like what happened to his family.  She explained that through them, he can regain what was stolen from him and restore his family.  In return, Ja Hong Myeong will kill Jo Kwan Woong.

On the other side of the Hundred Year Inn, Pil Mok gets surprised when a mad Jo Kwan Woong reveals that Ja Hong Myeong has already admitted her identity as Yoon Seo Hwa whom he had  had killed years ago.
The wicked official threatens Pil Mok saying he will severe ties with Goon Bon and will make sure that none of them can set foot in Joseon.

Pil Mok asks for more time but Jo Kwan Woong says he has no patience so its best to choose between him or Seo Hwa.

Choi Kang Chi is leaving the guest room when he sees Seo Hwa standing in a corner.  He remembers what Jo Kwan Woong said about him and what Seo Hwa told Choi Ma Reum to keep her identity a secret.

Yoon Seo Hwa sees and acknowledge him as if they are not family.  Kang Chi said she owes him again while Seo Hwa tells him to go safely.  Kang Chi leaves.
Teary-eyed, Kang Chi walks back to ask his mother if she really hates him that much and if he is that horrible enough to be abandoned.  Yoon Seo Hwa was left speechless holding back her tears.  As soon as Kang Chi leaves, Yoon Seo Hwa is on her knees crying.  Pil Mok sees her from afar.

At the Choonhwangwan, Cheong Jo pours liquor for Wol San.  She claims she doesn't want to be at odds with Wol San and wants their clash to stop.  Wol San thinks Cheong Jo is trying to reconcile with her because Jo Kwan Wong is backing her up again.
Before unnecessary argument ensues, Cheong Jo gives Wol San a present.  Wol San tries to use her pride but changes the tone of her sentence midway upon seeing the set of precious jewelry.  Then she drinks the liquor in front her adding she is forgiving Cheong Jo and must not get on her nerves again – to which Cheong Jo retaliates that is what she wants Wol San to understand.

Cheong Jo stressed that Wol San should not get into her nerves.  Wol San then feels something painful inside her throat and learned that Cheong Jo has put Chinhon wine in her liquor.  Cheong Jo tells Wol San that the antidote will come to her the following day but for now, she must suffer what Kang Chi went through.

Furthermore, Cheong Jo reminds her senior never to use her again in any scheme or else she will put poison to her drink next time.  Cheong Jo tells her servant that said she will no longer be threatened by anyone so her maid should measure up as well and never disappoint her again.

At the Hundred Year Inn, Yeo Wool and Bong Chool are both tied in a pillar.  They try to untie the rope but couldn't.   Until they heard commotion outside and sees Kang Chi come inside the storage to rescue them!
Yeo Wool asks her boyfriend if he is okay and notice his pale colored face.  Kang Chi tells Yeo Wool that he had already taken an antidote.  And seeing Yeo Wool’s concern, Kang Chi couldn’t help but hug his beloved.

Wanting to see what’s going on, Ma Bong Chool peeks at them and shock to see the couple embracing!  Ma Bong Chool is not aware that Yeo Wool is a woman.

At the academy, Gon and Seung are waiting for Kang Chi and Yeo Wool.  The two are happy to see the couple.

Yeo Wool is glad that his father wouldn't know that she sneaked out because Master Dam is at the naval base. Kang Chi tells them that he is hungry and invites everyone to have dinner.  Inside, Master Gong Dal has served a sumptuous dinner.

While everyone is having fun at the table, Kang Chi, who suffered a lot in the past few days, just by looking at them, gets tears in his eyes.  He describes the food as delicious and as he tries to fill his mouth with food, Yeo Wool puts her hand on his lap to calm him.  With tears in his eyes, Kang Chi looks at her and smiles.
The dinner gets more fun when governess Yeo Joo arrives with a liquor to celebrate Kang Chi and Yeo Wool’s return.
Later inside his room, Kang Chi is looking at the challenge head gisaeng Cheon gave him and then remembers what brother Yoon told him regarding the death of villagers in the woods.

Meanwhile, Gon is practicing his sword skills just outside the academy.  Then Kang Chi applauds to Gon’s surprise.
Kang Chi seeks his advice on how he  can be stronger as he has a lot to protect now.  Gon tells him that to become stronger, he must bear more responsibilities. Kang Chi asks for example but Gon couldn't cite any until Kang Chi tells the master an example - that he must kill his own father.  Gon is totally surprised that Kang Chi is aware of this fact.  When asked if he’s okay with, Kang Chi shows a sad face but reveals there’s nothing he can do about it.  It’s a responsibility that only he must carry.  Then Gon tells Kang Chi to follow him back inside the academy.

At the Hundred Year Inn, Park Tae Seo is having a deal with Ja Hong  Myeong/Yoon Seo Hwa.  Tae Seo asks what he will get in return if he joins alliance with the Japanese merchants, the merchant said that he will regain the Hundred Year Inn and his sister and the full support of the Goongbon merchants.  Then Tae Seo asks what he needs to do for the Goongbon, Hong Myeong orders him to get back the stolen maps.  When he asked when will be Jo Kwan Woong’s death, the lady merchant reveals that he will be dead by now.

On the other side of the Hundred Year Inn, Jo Kwan Woong heard something outside his room.  When he went out to see what’s going on, he sees his men dead.  He is surprised that a sword is aim at his neck.

At the academy, Gon and Kang Chi see Master Dam at the grounds waiting for them.

Meanwhile, Wol Ryeong has arrived in town.  He walks until he reaches the Hundred Year Inn and wonders who called him there.  Unknown to him, Yoon Seo Hwa – the woman whom he loved and the one who betrayed him making him a thousand year demon - is there talking to Dam Yeo Wool – the young woman who is very much in love with his and Yeo Hwa’s son, Choi Kang Chi.

While Dam Yeo Wool is talking to Yoon Seo Hwa about her boyfriend, Kang Chi, on the other hand, is facing an aggressive Master Dam, Yeo Wool's father, who wants him to take off his bracelet and fight him!

Will it be inevitable for Kang Chi to really kill his father whose memories already depleted?  What will Yeo Wool gain in meeting with Yoon Seo Hwa?  And will Kang Chi understand the wisdom behind the actions of Master Dam?
