GU FAMILY BOOK (EPISODE 14)

Gu Wol Ryeong, Sojung’s friend who used to be the thousand year protector of the Moonlight Garden, is now the thousand year evil spirit.  He failed to complete his mission to become human when he fell in love with Seo Hwa to whom he has a child – Choi Kang Chi.
Before Wol Ryeong answers Sojung’s question if he has become the thousand year evil spirit, Wol Ryeong asks the monk about the creature he met in the woods which he describes as a combination of human and mythical being.

A happy atmosphere surrounds the village as they celebrate the Lantern Festival. But two souls are wearing worried faces: Kang Chi, the worried one is searching for the lady who might have been waiting for him because they were supposed to meet earlier for the Lantern Festival; and Yeo Wool, the worried one waiting for the man who might have forgotten that he is supposed to celebrate the Lantern Festival with her.

The young man she is waiting for suddenly emerges from the crowd.  Happy to see him, Yeo Wool, who is covered by a coat, stands up and is about to meet Kang Chi halfway when the he walked past her!  Yeo Wool’s jacket slips after a speeding Kang Chi bumps into her.   Kang Chi did not recognize her and even apologize for the accident.  He is about to run off when Yeo Wool calls him.

Hearing a familiar voice, Choi Kang Chi turns around only to find the person he is looking for transformed into something beautiful.  Kang Chi was looking for a girl dressed like a man but the person in front of him is a pretty, long-haired lady clad in a colorful hanbok – Yeo Wool.  He is dumbfounded. Rather, smitten.
Kang Chi couldn’t believe what he is seeing.  He even asks if the lady is Yeo Wool.  Yeo Wool tells him he is late and answers his question with just her sweet smile.
To his surprise, Kang Chi couldn’t say the right words.  He asks why is Yeo Wool wearing a hanbok to which the lady explains that she wears a dress from time to time.
When ask if Kang Chi finds it weird, the latter agrees. When she asks what part is weird, Kang Chi says everything.  Then Yeo Wool walks out, obviously offended by his remarks.  She tells Kang Chi that he wouldn’t want to be with a weird-looking girl.
But Kang Chi clarifies that it surprised him to see Yeo Wool in a dress and he is not used to it.  With things already clear, Yeo Wool walks on to buy a lantern.  Kang Chi follows him.
A lighted lantern with a wish on its tail has just been hanged.  When Kang Chi asks Yeo Wool about her lantern, the lady says it has just been hanged.  Meaning, both are wishing the same thing – that is to quickly find the Gu Family book and turn Kang Chi a full human.

The two are having a good time when Kang Chi sensed the presence of Wol Ryeong, who is discreetly watching them.

At the Hundred Year Inn, Cheon Su Ryeon performs her Five Drum dance which she last played a decade ago.  After the performance, the Japanese guest finds it disappointing.
The guest is about to leave when the head gisaeng apologizes for her inability to move the guest’s heart with her performance.  Taking the chance to embarrass the head gisaeng, Wol San agrees it was shameful.  But Cheong Jo defends Cheon Su Ryeon by asking the guest what part dissatisfied her.  But the guest, speaking in Joseon language, explains that the performer did not put her whole heart into it.
The guest leaves while Jo Kwan Woong announces his disappointment on Chun Soo Ryun for ruining the evening.  Jo Kwan Woong soon talks to his guests as he aims to appease them.  Later, Cheon Su Ryeon apologizes to Jo Kwan Woong, who  orders her to apologize personally to his guests the next day.

After the event at the Hundred Year Inn, Cheong Jo together with the head gisaeng’s assistant proceed to the village to enjoy the remaining festivity of the festival.  Cheong Jo remembers her happier days with Tae Seo and Kang Chi when they celebrate the Lantern Festival.  Then Cheong Jo sees a smiling Kang Chi walking with Dam Yeo Wool.

Maybe jealous, Park Cheong Jo turns her back but bumps into a drunken man. Kang Chi, who is surprised to see his childhood sweetheart, couldn’t just stand and watch.  He rescued her from the man and walks her home, leaving Yeo Wool behind.
Before Park Cheong Jo is about to get inside when Kang Chi asks if she is still scared of him.  He apologized for not telling her soon about his identity.
But Cheong Jo answers back with a question. She wants to know if Yeo Wool knows his other persona.  He said yes.  Once more in an instant, a coldhearted gisaeng talks to Kang Chi, saying she’ll provide drinks when he visits the gisaeng house next time.

When Kang Chi returns, Yeo Wool is waiting for him.  But the person he sees now is the Yeo Wool he is used to being with – in a man’s clothes.  However, she looks sad.  Yeo Wool sees Kang Chi and their eyes lock.  There’s a silence and some awkward atmosphere.  Yeo Wool, as usual, breaks the ice, smiles and walks towards Kang Chi.
She asks if Cheong Jo went home safe, Kang Chi confirms it. Kang Chi, who somehow looks disappointed seeing Yeo Wool changed her clothes, tells the young lady that she is back to what is familiar to him.  Yeo Wool tries to confirm to Kang Chi in an inquisitive note that Cheong Jo is the most important person to him, the one that cannot be replaced.  But even before Kang Chi could answer, Yeo Wool apologizes for making it awkward for them.  Then she turns her back and walk away.
Kang Chi runs after her.  Turns her around. Their eyes lock once more. And just when everybody think Kang Chi would say something romantic, he tells Yeo Wool that he is hungry!

At the academy, Seung tells Gon and Master Gong Dal that Kang Chi and Yeo Wool left the previous night and had not returned since.  Gong Dal stops him because it will put the two including Yeo Wool in trouble.
Then Pyeong Joon arrives and asks for his daughter to which Gong Dal lied that he sent Yeo Wool together with Kang Chi to do some errand.  Gon seconded.  But the truth will come out soon when they receive reports about brother Kim’s death.  Pyeong Joon and the rest of the people in the academy check the body hanging in a tree.  Worried for his daughter, Pyeong Joon asks Gong Dal where he sent Kang Chi and Yeo Wool.

Yeo Wool and Kang Chi are having breakfast when they heard two men from the other table bullying Kang Chi for murdering Park Moo Sol.  Yeo Wool confronts them and even hits one of the guys.  The guys were about to hit her back when Kang Chi blocks the fist of the guy.
Ma Bong Chool then comes in asking them what’s going on. Seeing his saviour, Ma Bong Chool tells his men to respect Choi Kang Chi at all times or he’ll hit them.  When Kang Chi asks him why he is good to him, Ma Bong Chool says he knows how to give back to his saviour.  Kang Chi warns him and tells him to keep it a secret. Kang Chi and Yeo Wool just left the restaurant when they run into Gon.

Gon tells the bad news. When they arrive at the academy, Kang Chi wants to see the victim’s body but the rest of the brothers block and confront him of his whereabouts the previous night.  Park Tae Seo tries to pacify them adding it is disrespectful for those in mourning but the brothers claim they must know where Kang Chi had been.

On the other side of the academy, Yeo Wool admits to her father that she and Kang Chi spent the night watching the Lantern Festival.  She explains that Kang Chi is an outcast and is always misunderstood in the academy. But Dam Pyeong Joon gets more irritated asking his daughter why she has feelings for Kang Chi.  He reminds her of the possible attack of Jo Kwan Woong against the admiral.  He adds that he trusts Yeo Wool because she is a responsible daughter.  But Yeo Wool butts in asking her father that she can’t trust his feelings for Kang Chi.  She apologizes for disappointing her father and wanted to say more but Dam Pyeong Joon ends the discussion and leaves the room.  Outside, Park Tae Seo approaches Dam Pyeong Joon.  He tells him that he is willing to do his mission.  He learns that Jo Kwan Woong knows about Kang Chi’s identity and might be killing people to put the blame to Kang Chi and endanger the academy.

At the Hundred Year Inn, Cheon Su Ryeon visits Ja Hong Myeong and apologizes for Cheong Jo’s behavior and her lackluster performance.  When Ja Hong Myeong asks her if she can visit the Choonhwagwan, the head gisaeng tells her that women are not allowed inside the gisaeng house and there are two ways to enter: become a gisaeng or become the owner.  Jo Kwan Woong, meanwhile, believes he had seen his Japanese guest somewhere, he just couldn't figure out where.

Master Dam Pyeong Joon together with Master Gong Dal gather Gon, Yeo Wool, Tae Seo and Kang Chi for a meeting.  Pyeong Joon announces that Tae Seo will be doing an undercover mission.  Kang Chi wants to do it instead but Pyeong Joon tells Kang Chi to follow orders from Gong Dal.

Pyeong Joon, who knows his daughter’s feelings for Kang Chi, announces that as soon as Park Tae Seo completes his mission, he will marry Yeo Wool.  He adds that Yeo Wool will no longer engage in any activity in Moo Hyung Do Gwan and will concentrate in becoming a woman and a wife.  Yeo Wool objects but Dam Pyeong Joon ends the meeting leaving everyone surprised and hurt.
Yeo Wool storms out of the conference room.  Tae Seo and Kang Chi left behind. Gon tries to talk to Yeo Wool.

But Yeo Wool tells him she wants to be alone. As soon as Gon closes the door, Yeo Wool couldn’t stop crying.

Cheong Jo, meanwhile, is practicing her five drum dance as she remembers Kang Chi, how she treated him and the night she met him with Yeo Wool.  She realizes she needs him.  She is interrupted by an advise that she has a visitor.
When she enters the room, she sees Jo Kwan Woon surrounded by gisaengs.  Then she sees Gop Dan, her servant.  Jo Kwan Woong claims this is his gift for her but Cheong Jo clarifies that the child is hers to begin with.  When asked what will make her happy, Cheong Jo boldly asks Jo Kwan Woong to give her the Hundred Year Inn.
With Wol San butting in and influencing Jo Kwan Woong, Cheong Jo also suggests him to get rid of that woman first beside him.  Jo Kwan Woong obliges. This hurts Wol San and increases further friction between the two gisaengs.  Jo Kwan Woong is pleased with Cheong Jo who explains that she is following his idea to survive until the time comes that she can kill him.  Jo Kwan Woong is more pleased adding that until the day he dies, he will keep Cheong Jo by his side and keep eye on her.

Back at the academy, Kang Chi continues to count the beans.  He is thinking seriously when he heard someone asking him about his worried face.  He is surprised to see master Gong Dal beside him!  He asks Gong Dal to make a noise when he walks in so as not to scare people.  But Gong Dal ignores his plea and asks Kang Chi if he is worried because of Yeo Wool’s marriage.  Kang Chi denies it.
Gong Dal asks how many beans have he counted.  He said about 6000.  The master follows the question how many has he counted without his bracelet but Kang Chi finds it absurd saying he swore he would never take off his bracelet when he is in the academy.  The master tells him he understands, stands up to leave.
But the ever curious Gong Dal sits back and asks Kang Chi if Yeo Wool is the reason why he doesn’t transform even without the bracelet.  The he leaves.

Touching his bracelet, Kang Chi recalls the times he experimented taking off the bracelet with Yeo Wool beside him.  Of course, Kang Chi hides this from Yeo Wool.
When Yeo Wool was asleep on his shoulder at the pavilion and when they were at the village during the Lantern Festival, Kang Chi took off his bracelet but did not transform.  He admits that he doesn’t know the reason as well.  Why it happens when Yeo Wool is by his side.  His thoughts were interrupted when he vibes the presence of Wol Ryeong.
When he turns around, he sees Wol Ryeong standing outside the academy. He asks who he is but Wol Ryeong didn’t answer. When he stands up, the beans fall on the ground.  When he checks Wol Ryeong, the latter is gone.

At the naval base, Pyeong Joon presented Gon Yi, Gong Dal, Tae Seo and Cheon Su Ryeon – the four masters.  They offer allegiance to Admiral Lee Soon Sin.
The admiral thank them and tells them that the journey will be lonely. All of them still give their vow.

Park Tae Seo proceeds to meet with Jo Kwan Woong who asks him some information he needs about the admiral.  Park Tae Seo reveals about the ship and even shows the design of the ship which he claim he had stolen.
Meanwhile, Sojung is on the floor. He just woke up after Wol Ryeong threw him on the wall.  He told Wol Ryeong that the person he is asking is his and Seo Hwa’s son.  He asked where is Seo Hwa.  Sojung tells him that she passed away later after giving birth to their child.
Wol Ryeong express disappointment that she is dead stating he wants to kill her.  He tells Sojung that he wants to annihilate everything, then he throws Sojung.

At the academy, Yeo Wool learns that Kang Chi is nowhere to be found.  Ardent hater of Kang Chi tells Yeo Wool that he might be in the forest so she should be careful at night.  This annoys Yeo Wool reminding them of Gong Dal’s teaching to provide proof before accusing anyone.  The said brother asks why are the masters defending Kang Chi when he is not human.  Yeo Wool reveals that Kang Chi joins the academy to become human just like everyone in the academy who wants to live as human beings.  She added that if it were them, she will do the same.

When he arrives at the academy later, Dam Pyeong Joon learns that his daughter left.

Dam Yeo Wool is in the forest searching for Kang Chi, who went to see the monk.  Sojung, who is still on the floor, advises Kang Chi to run away and hide because Wol Ryeong, his father, has appeared and wants to kill him.

At this time, Wol Ryeong is watching Yeo Wool who is intently searching for Kang Chi in the forest.  Yeo Wool asks for his identity but Wol Ryeong keeps running around.  Knowing she is in danger, Yeo Wool runs to save herself but trips causing her to sprain her foot.  She couldn’t move much.  Wol Ryeong finally shows himself to Yeo Wool.

Meantime, Kang Chi runs out of the monk’s house after hearing the bad news.  He is running in the forest when he heard Yeo Wool’s cry for help.  But Wol Ryeong walks toward Yeo Wool and even kneels to get closer.

Will Kang Chi save Yeo Wool in time?  Is this what monk Sojung reveals that one of them may end up dying?
