GU FAMILY BOOK EPISODE 24

At the naval base, the Admiral Lee Soon Sin asks Choi Kang Chi what he wants. The young man said he want to end the atrocities of Jo Kwan Woong because the games the latter play are unforgivable. The admiral said he would help Kang Chi only if he makes a promise that he will not kill anyone for revenge no matter what happens.  The admiral reveals he will punish Jo Kwan Woong and his men according to law so he should not get his hands dirty or he will be no different from Jo Kwan Woong.  Kang Chi commits.

Later at the Hundred Year Inn, while Gon, Tae Seo, Bong Chool and his assistant fight the ninjas, Kang Chi saves Yeo Wool as well as his father Ma Reum and inn's staff Eokman. Soon the rest of the saving troop arrives at the storage room.  Both Gon and Tae Seo are happy to see Yeo Wool.  Kang Chi tells everyone that time is running out.  They should proceed to Sang Seol courtyard where the Admiral might be in danger. He tells Yeo Wool that today is the day they will put an end to Jo Kwan Woong’s wicked ways.

Kang Chi was about to tell Yeo Wool to go home but the young woman seems eager to join the event adding she has been planning to give Jo Kwan Woong a round kick.

Kang Chi advises her to go back to the academy to see his father adding her energy is low because she was tied up the entire night.

But Kang Chi’s decision melts when Yeo Wool tells him she wants to be with him and she wants to witness a historical event where Jo Kwan Woong will be thrown off.

The group arrives at the courtyard just as Jo Kwan Woong was about to leave.  Kang Chi reminds Jo Kwan Woong his vow to take back the Hundred Year Inn. Unknown to them, Deputy Seo is hiding with a rifle.  Then out of the blue Jo Kwan Woong bids farewell to Choi Kang Chi.

Puzzled by this statement, Yeo Wool looks around and found Deputy Seo with a rifle! Yeo Wool calls Kang Chi and blocks his path as Deputy Seo fires at them.  The bullet hits Yeo Wool at the back instead of Kang Chi!

Kang Chi and Yeo Wool stare at each other until the latter gets weak and falls to the ground.  Her boyfriend catches her on time.  Then Kang Chi notices one of his hands is full of blood.  Yeo Wool, meanwhile, begs him not to go anywhere.  Then Yeo Wool suddenly lost consciousness making Kang Chi and the rest think she is gone.   Gon and Tae Seo run to her side.

With the tragedy that falls on them, Kang Chi couldn’t help himself.  He transforms and slowly walks towards Deputy Seo, who at this time, is struggling to refill and rekindle the fire of the rifle so he could shoot Kang Chi.

Guards of Jo Kwan Woong block Kang Chi but none of them could stop them from going towards Deputy Seo.  Engulfed by rage, Kang Chi punches Deputy Seo heavily.  Then he hurls the deputy to the wall where he strangles him as he transforms further to his mythical being.  He tells the deputy to die and that all worthless, rotten beings like him should die.  He was about to kill him when the admiral calls Kang Chi.  Looking at each other, Kang Chi remembers their agreement.  But in spite of this, Kang Chi justifies that deputy must die because he doesn't deserve to live.  He wants to kill him with his own hands.

The admiral advises him that if he puts blood on his hands now, it will become a more burdensome blood later on so he should not kill him.

Then Kang Chi heard Yeo Wool calling his name. That’s the time Kang Chi stops strangling the deputy and turns to look at his girlfriend. Yeo Wool is still alive!  Kang Chi runs towards his beloved.  Gon tells them they should hurry and escort her out.  Kang Chi understands what Gon is saying when Jo Kwan Woong orders that no one can leave the Hundred Year Inn.

But the admiral fights back and tells the opponents to back off.  He confronts Jo Kwan Woong admitting he can no longer take his actions. Then he calls in Deputy Jung Woo, who is just at the gate waiting to receive orders from the admiral. Jung Woo together with the entire naval team barges in and position themselves accordingly.

The admiral orders the arrest of Jo Kwan Woong and his men for trying to kill innocent people, taking away their riches, stole the nation’s great treasure and sold it off and for trying to kill him, the admiral Lee Soon Sin.

Meanwhile, Ja Ryeong asks Kageshima regarding the time given by the admiral.  Since they don’t have enough time, he orders Kageshima to prepare and leave the following morning.  This leaves Jo Kwan Woong to fight against the admiral alone.

Seeing the situation, loyal Deputy Seo, while being dragged out, shouts to his minions to secure Jo Kwan Woong to safety.  The minions throw some powder bomb giving Jo Kwan Woong a chance to escape. The admiral orders the offenders to be arrested.

All throughout the situation, Kang Chi and Yeo Wool remained on the ground.

Head gisaeng Cheon received the news that Yeo Wool was shot.  Park Cheong Jo asks what will happen to Yeo Wool.  The master reveals she has not seen any musket that consist some powder and small metal pellet that will crash and rot the bone of the victim who will soon die.

At the Hundred Year Inn, Yeo Wool is being watched by her father Master Dam, her governess Yeo Joo and Master Gong Dal.  Gong Dal relays the findings of the physician that there is not much time left for Yeo Wool.

Master Dam remembers the time when Yeo Wool as a kid wants to learn how to use a sword because a kid got injured and she couldn't do anything.  The young girl adds that to protect someone, she must be strong.

Monk Sojeong gets weak when he heard from Kang Chi the bad news. Kang Chi asks for a method on how to save Yeo Wool but the monk asks how could there be a solution to a person’s fate.  He said she didn't avoid it and she has to pay the price.  Kang Chi insists that the monk could probably do something to save Yeo Wool but the old man reminds him that he cannot save the person twice using his divine blood. Hearing no other solution from the monk except to leave and stay by Yeo Wool’s side, Kang Chi returns to the academy.  He is looking at Yeo Wool’s room when Seung approaches him and tells him that the Master together with all the guards went to the woods to personally kill Jo Kwan Woong.

At the mountains, Jo Kwan Woong is running to escape with his men. But the group of Master Dam Pyeong Joon together with Park Tae Seo and Gon are out to arrest him.  Jo Kwan Woong’s men noticed they are being followed so they hide.  They didn't know that there was another student who tracked them and immediately send a beacon sign.  The three groups scattered in different directions followed the sign and soon cornered Jo Kwan Woong and his men.  Still, Jo Kwan Woong tries to escape but Choi Kang Chi blocks his path!  He tells Kang Chi to let him pass or he will have his throat slit.  Kang Chi, whose eyes changes to its mythical form, threatens the guards accompanying Jo Kwan Woong to run if they want to live.  The two escorts obeyed.
Jo Kwan Woong picks up the sword thrown by one of his men and aimed at Kang Chi. He threatens to kill Kang Chi but the latter swiftly approached him and breaks the arm holding a sword.  Kang Chi, controlling his rage, asks Jo Kwan Woong if it’s painful.  He stressed that the pain he feels is nothing compared to what Jo Kwan Woong gave them.

Back at the academy, Yeo Wool finally wakes up and sees Kang Chi beside her.  She asks him to lift her up so she could embrace him.  Kang Chi asks his girlfriend if she is okay, Yeo Wool confirms.  Then Yeo Wool, embraced by Kang Chi, asks about his father saying he must be worried.  Kang Chi affirmed adding Master Dam visited earlier.  She wants him to tell her father that she is sorry but Kang Chi wants her to get better.  Then Yeo Wool reveals she has three wishes and she wants her boyfriend to grant them.

Her first wish is to spend a good dinner with everyone.  Present during dinner are Masters Dam Pyeong Joon, Gong Dal, Gon Yi and Park Tae Seo with governess Yeo Joo, student Seung and her boyfriend Choi Kang Chi. The group were having fun with Gon being the subject.  Gong Dal exposes that Gon was slow with his sword when he started. Yeo Wool contributes revealing Gon was shorter than her when he was 10 but Gon admits he became taller than her after a year.  Yeo Wool didn't stop revealing Gon is a picky eater who hates carrots.  Yeo Joo is surprised on this revelation while Kang Chi reminds Tae Seo about carrots. Apparently,  Tae Seo doesn't like carrots as well. While everyone is having a good conversation, Yeo Wool is suffering some pain, which gets obvious when her chopsticks hit the table, causing everyone to stop.  Kang Chi and Master Dam both noticed blood dropping on the floor.  Kang Chi invites his girlfriend to return to her room and that it is not good to overdo it. But Yeo Wool refused saying she wants to stay a little longer.

Then Master Dam orders his daughter to go back and rest.  Tears falling, Yeo Wool apologizes to her father.  Master Dam holds his daughter’s hand, and in between tears, he said Yeo Wool is the most amazing gift he ever had. Everyone at the table couldn't help but cry. Then the Master tells that he is turning over his daughter to Kang Chi.

Kang Chi carries Yeo Wool on their way back to her room.  Yeo Wool tells her second wish -  she wants to go for a walk, just the two of them, despite the late hour.

Kang Chi takes his girlfriend to the river.  Seated together at the bank, Yeo Wool is curious about something and asks why is Kang Chi afraid of giant spiders to which the latter replied because of their legs. Then Kang Chi, who is also curious about something, asks Yeo Wool if she remembers that he would make her his bride.  He asks what would be her answer if he asks the same question now.
Surprised by the question, Yeo Wool asks when did Kang Chi remember. Kang Chi admits the day he found out she is Dam Yeo Wool. When she asked why didn’t he say anything, Kang Chi confessed that at that time Yeo Wool starts to mean something to him already.  Then Kang Chi asks Yeo Wool the most romantic question -  “will you marry me?”

Yeo Wool pauses before she answered that she can’t cook rice well.  Kang Chi, with tears in his eyes, pops up the question again - “will you marry me?” but Yeo Wool answered that she doesn’t sew very well.  For the third time, Kang Chi asks Yeo Wool -  “will you marry me?”

Yeo Wool reaches out to Kang Chi and touches his face.  She dries up his tears telling him not to cry.  She said she don’t want to be a sad memory to Kang Chi, but a happy one.  She doesn’t want to be his tears; it would be better if she would be his smile. And whenever Kang Chi thinks of Yeo Wool, she wish he would be happy.  And that is her third wish.

Holding her hands, Kang Chi tells Yeo Wool to meet again.  She agrees.  Kang Chi adds that he will wait and believes that they will definitely meet again.

Kang Chi tells her I love you and Yeo Wool answers back with I love you.  The young couple kissed.

While they were kissing, in his mind, Kang Chi promises that when she meets Yeo Wool again, he will recognize her first.  When he meets her again, he will love her first.

But the couple’s kiss soon ends when Yeo Wool hand falls on Kang Chi's lap.  Yeo Wool dies in the arms of her Kang Chi, leaving the latter in grief. Weeping as if there is no tomorrow.

Kang Chi said “Just like that the sound of her breath stopped and just like that my time stopped.”

At the academy, everyone is inside their room feeling the misery except for Gon, who is crying while waiting at the grounds for Yeo Wool - just like the time when he waits for her to come home.

The following day, Park Tae Seo finds Choi Kang Chi inside the room of Yeo Wool.  The purple flower Kang Chi gave to Yeo Wool died as well.

Kang Chi said he couldn't believe that Yeo Wool is no longer there. The person, who smiled and cried before him a few hours ago, disappeared.  Wherever she went, Kang Chi said she couldn’t find her or meet her.

Tae Seo said that death could be much more vain and nothing than people think.

Kang Chi wonders if without him, Yeo Wool would have still be alive and would she still be living with her happy smile.

Tae Seo tells Kang Chi that if someone will asks him whether he would live 100 years alone or would live 100 days with his loved one, he would choose the latter.  He explained that Yeo Wool is more than happy than anyone else because of Kang Chi.  This somehow comforts Kang Chi.

Then Tae Seo tells Kang Chi that everyone is waiting outside.  Kang Chi looks at Yeo Wool’s purple dead flower for the last time before he leaves Yeo Wool’s room.

At the grounds, Kang Chi bows to his masters. He said he is indebted to them.  Master Dam asks him if he will search for the Gu Family Book but Kang Chi declines saying he will live as a divine creature for awhile until he meets someone whom he wants to live with again.  He plans to wait.

Master Gong Dal approaches him. He gives Kang Chi his special medicine and his ring, which is a proof that Kang Chi has been a student of the master.

Then his adoptive father Choi Ma Reum approaches Kang Chi. Ma Reum tells his son that he knows what he wants to tell him.  He just tells Kang Chi to take care of himself.

Before he leaves, Master Dam gives Kang Chi the best gift he ever received – Dam Yeo Wool’s sword! The master wants him to keep it. He tells him not to break it and to take care of it.

Seung, who is crying, tells Kang Chi to take care while Tae Seo hopes to see him again.  Soon Kang Chi bows before everyone and bids farewell.

As Kang Chi nears the foot of the stairs, Gon appears at the gate telling his mythical friend to take care.  Hearing it, Kang Chi, in his mind tells Gon to live well friend.  Then he raises Yeo Wool’s sword as a sign of acknowledgment.

Park Cheong Jo receives the cloth she made for Kang Chi. Now she knows that Kang Chi’s heart has been completed by her true love. Later, Cheong Jo visits Jo Kwan Woong.  She brings her some liquor.  She gives him a cup and pours him drink.  Then she tells him to end his filthy life.

Jo Kwan Woong asks why is Cheong Jo giving him some mercy.  Cheong Jo corrects him saying she just wants her to be one to end his life. Then Jo Kwan Woong drinks the wine with poison and orders Cheong Jo to pour more.  He confessed that it had a boring life, that it was really weary and dull. He said it wasn't greed but he wants to feel that he is alive.  Soon, Jo Kwan Woon dies alone in his cell.

Choi Kang Chi, meanwhile, pays his last visit to the Admiral. The two men walked down the street with guards in tow.  The admiral asks where Kang Chi is going but the young man doesn't exactly know his destination.

The Admiral advises there’s no right answer for living as human. But to become a better human being, the admiral adds, Kang Chi had already exerted efforts.

The Admiral also adds that he should not bow to fear and knowing that he is living independently will make him stronger.

The Admiral even praises Kang Chi that out of all the people he met, Kang Chi is the most whole and warmhearted person.

Kang Chi, grateful for what he heard, tells the admiral to raise a beacon fire at the North, then he will come back to help.

Then he asks the admiral if thinks the real Gu family book really exists. The Admiral replies that if Kang Chi believes in becoming human, then it probably exists.

Hearing this, Choi Kang Chi then bows to bid goodbye.

Later, Yeo Wool’s purple flower, which died when the young lady passed away, blooms once more as it gets surrounded by the blue magical lights.

Four hundred and twenty-two years later. Seoul,  2013. Present time.

A vast room well accentuated with expensive pieces of furniture.  The room highlights its historical artifacts – and items close to the heart of the owner- swords, medicine case, a floral belt made of silk, among others.  And the purple flower.  Beside it is a ringing mobile phone whose owner is still taking a bath. He soon dries his hair and chooses his clothes in the closet where a familiar red vest hangs.  All set to go, he receives a call from someone reminding him of a party. Then he stops to look at the window. There, he said he sees the crescent moon for 5221st time that night before he stares at a well-preserved sword displayed on the wall. His thoughts get interrupted when his butler called him - President.  Then a good-looking Choi Kang Chi turned and acknowledges the man who looks exactly like Choi Ma Reum, his adoptive father hundreds of years ago.  The butler gives him a glass of a ginseng which he took before he leaves for the party.  At the hotel’s driveway, Choi Kang Chi’s vehicle arrives – a sports car!  It’s driven by Kim Ki Bang, seems to be the new generation’s Eokman.  Kang Chi commends Eokman but the hotel attendant reminds him that his name is Kim Ki Bang and not Eokman.  Kang Chi apologizes since he keeps forgetting because he has been alive for a long time. As soon as he gets in the car and leaves, Eokman wonders why Kang Chi tells him he is old when Eokman is older than him.

On his way to the party, Kang Chi passes by the Gwanghwamun Square where the statue of the Admiral stands.  According to Kang Chi, the world has changed so quickly and the life of human changed so much and even the memories of the past.  He is checking his phone while waiting for the traffic light to turn go when something caught his attention – a woman all dressed in black just run past the pedestrian lane.  It seems he wants to follow where the lady is heading but she disappeared in the dark.  Then the traffic light turns green.

But as soon as he gets out of the car when he arrives at the venue, Kang Chi heard someone screaming for help. He wanted to ignore it but the lady pleaded again leaving him with no choice but to rescue the person.  When he arrives at the scene, he sees a group of men with its leader refusing to hand over the lady’s bag.  Since he is tall and the man is a little short, he took the bag from him causing the gang leader to get angry.  When the gang leader turns around, Kang Chi is surprised to see the reborn version Ma Bong Chool! And his victim is a look alike of governess Yeo Joo!  Kang Chi even chuckles that even when Bong Chool is reborn, he still ends up taking money from people.  Then Bong Chool's reincarnation wants him to give back the bag but Kang Chi orders him to step back in a count of three.  As soon as Kang Chi finished his counting, his eyes transform in a blink! Using his power, Kang Chi overpowered the entire gang and returned the bag to the lady who looks like Yeo Joo.  Everyone, however, stopped when someone behind Kang Chi orders to freeze. The thugs escape while the governess’ look alike runs after them after one of the crooks snatched her bag again!

Kang Chi was about to run after them as well but the person behind him orders again for him to freeze! Raising his hands, Kang Chi tries to use diplomacy by explaining that there is some misunderstanding. But when he turns around, Kang Chi couldn't believe the person approaching him. A woman wearing pants with her hair tied and holding a gun is approaching Kang Chi. When she emerged from the dark, Choi Kang Chi is speechless. He could utter nothing but her name – Yeo Wool!

And the policewoman, who is aiming her gun at Kang Chi, is puzzled that the stranger in front of him knows her.  She asks him if he knows her.

Then Choi Kang Chi remembers his promise to his Dam Yeo Wool – that when he meets her again, he will recognize her first and he will love him first.

Yeo Wool asks him again if he knows her, he answered perhaps and that he is not sure but he feels like he knows who she is.

And Choi Kang Chi sees that his fated meeting with Yeo Wool happened near a blossoming tree with crescent moon above it.

But despite this, Choi Kang Chi is elated that their time that stopped thousands of years ago started to flow once more.
