GU FAMILY BOOK (Episode 17)

The episode reveals a montage of sweet moments of Kang Chi and Yeo Wool.  In his thoughts he said

"Why at that time I was unable to answer... why I couldn’t tell you at that time... Truthfully, the truth is Yeo Wool..."

Madam Yeo Joo reports to Master Dam that Yeo Wool is missing despite thorough search in the academy.  Kang Chi, who was called by the master, revealed Yeo Wool was with her and she should be back already in her room.  Kang Chi runs back to their meeting place only to find Yeo Wool gone.  He accidentally steps on the little bell he gave to Yeo Wool.  Then he remembers Wol Ryeong’s threats that he will destroy everyone related to him.

Kang Chi reveals the identity of his father who has become a thousand year evil spirit, to the masters.  Master Dam questions him why he missed giving that important information to them.  Master Gong Dal defends Kang Chi that he is probably protecting him.
After all, Wol Ryeong is still his father.  Then Kang Chi leaves his bracelet on the master’s table. Transformed, he vows to bring back Yeo Wool or he will never come back without her.

While Gon is assigning the students on their posts, everyone gets surprised to see a transformed Kang Chi emerged from the room.  Gon asks him where he is going with that look.  Kang Chi stressed that he will take care of the problem and will not come back without Yeo Wool.

Meanwhile, Yeo Wool is blindfolded and brought in the middle of the forest... not by Wol Ryeong but by the men of Jo Kwan Woong who ordered to kill the most important person to Dam Pyeong Joon.  Before leaving to report to his boss, Deputy Seo orders his guards to behead Yeo Wool and leave her head in the academy.
Yeo Wool uses her skills in martial arts to save herself.  Despite giving her kidnappers a good fight, the girl was overpowered.  And just when she is about to lose, the perpetrators get killed.  The one who saves her is Wol Ryeong.

Not far from them, Deputy Seo and a few of his guards witnessed what happened and plans to escape when Wol Ryeong blocks and kills them.
Hearing this, Yeo Wool runs for her life.  But Wol Ryeong suddenly appears in front of her!  Wol Ryeong tells Yeo Wool that she can never escape from her.
He aims to attack her but stops.
He suddenly changes his focus.  Seeing Wol Ryeong’s reaction, Yeo Wool turns and finds a transformed Kang Chi behind her. She is happy to see him when Wol Ryeong unexpectedly grabs her on the neck.
Wol Ryeong threatens to kill her if Kang Chi will not give up becoming human.  He also asked Kang Chi if the latter haven’t informed Yeo Wool who Wol Ryeong is to him.  Then Wol Ryeong introduces himself as Choi Kang Chi’s father.

Kang Chi orders Wol Ryeong to step away from Yeo Wool but the thousand year evil demon tightens his grab on Yeo Wool, who all of a sudden tells Kang Chi not to give up.
Wol Ryeong orders her to shut up but Yeo Wool keeps on.  She begs Wol Ryeong to stop because even without him, Kang Chi has been suffering already in his life.  She adds that if he is Kang Chi’s father, he should not continue hurting his son.

But Wol Ryeong didn’t listen and orders her to stop prompting Kang Chi to attack him.  After Yeo Wool assures Kang Chi that she is okay, Kang Chi and Wol Ryeong engage in fight.
The battle seems to be ending with Kang Chi losing and almost couldn’t stand.  Wol Ryeong brags that his son can never defeat him so he should give up.  He walks towards Yeo Wool but gets blocked again by Kang Chi. Wol Ryeong hits Kang Chi every time he tells him to step back.  But Kang Chi continues to protect Yeo Wool, who couldn't stop her tears from falling.

Wol Ryeong’s plan to go after Yeo Wool only stops when Kang Chi announces that Yeo Wool is his woman!
The memories of Seo Hwa and how he tries to save her return on Wol Ryeong’s mind.  His tears fall as the floating magical blue lights surround them. A heavy wind blows in the forest making Kang Chi turn and protect Yeo Wool.  Then Wol Ryeong disappears.

The young couple asks each other if they are okay.  Kang Chi admits that he thought he had lost Yeo Wool and he is scared of it. The young couple embraces each other.

Looking passionately at his woman, Choi Kang Chi continues his confession in the beginning of this episode.  In his thoughts he said:

The truth is Yeo Wool, you are the most important person in my life.  Without you, I have no meaning.

In the middle of the forest, surrounded by the magical blue lights, the mythical Kang Chi kisses Yeo Wool passionately.  And when they separate, Yeo Wool, who sees the half-human, half-mythical being she loves transforms back to human, kisses Kang Chi once more!

This scene is definitely unexpected but surely worth watching.  The entire scene lasts for two minutes showcasing how much Kang Chi and Yeo Wool love each other.

Wol Ryeong is at the house of monk So Jung, who discovers that his mythical friend is wounded.  However, Wol Ryeong doesn’t have the power anymore to heal or revive himself because he is left with anger, despair and destruction.  Wol Ryeong is miserable asking his friend when was the last he said what Kang Chi told him – she is my woman.  Unfortunately, Wol Ryeong couldn’t remember why he did it, whom he did it for and when was it.  He tells So Jung that if he forgets his memories then he probably will truly become a demon. And before it happens, he wants to die.
However, he knows that the only one that can kill him is his son, Kang Chi. He adds that if only death can bring him to where Yoon Seo Hwa is.  It seems like Wol Ryeong is not just a thousand year protector or a thousand year evil demon but a thousand year lover!

At the Hundred Year Inn, Ja Hong Myeong is talking to Jo Kwan Woong about her desire to buy Park Tae Seo.  She said she wants him to be freed from Jo Kwan Woong and she will assign him to be in charge of the Hundred Year Inn.
She tells the current management is pathetic.  Jo Kwan Woong tells her that he is the owner of the inn adding whatever he do to the inn is his decision.  However, Ja Hong Myeong reminds Jo Kwan Woong that the funds used to purchase the Hundred Year Inn has come from merchants of Goon Bon.  But the heated argument continues with Park Tae Seo listening to every piece of information revealed on the table.  Jae Ryung tells Jo Kwan Woong to end the conversation.  However, pissed by the situation and curious of the merchant’s face, Jo Kwan Woong stands up to see the face of Ja Hong Myeong but was abruptly protected by Kageshima.

At the academy, Yeo Wool and Kang Chi report about the incident.  However, both lied regarding the real identity of the kidnappers. When asked if it was Wol Ryeong, the couple denied in chorus.  For daring to do such bold action at the academy, Gon suspects Jo Kwan Woong.  Then Yeo Wool pleads that she’d be freed from being locked in.  She explains if she had her sword with her, she wouldn’t be easily kidnapped so easily.  But Kang Chi contests saying Yeo Wool should be chained instead.  Then the young couple argues in front of the masters.
Kang Chi tells Yeo Wool that if she is a guy he gets a good spanking for sneaking out.  Yeo Wool tells Kang Chi that she have been easy on him then slaps him hard on the shoulder eliciting a loud cry from the half-human, half mythical being. Thus, Yeo Wool calls him crybaby!  Master Dam tells them to stop.  Yeo Wool apologizes adding she can’t stay in the meeting because of Kang Chi. She then slams the table before leaving.  Kang Chi tells the master he will leave the meeting as well and slams the table just like Yeo Wool.

Yeo Wool and Kang Chi meets outside the room.  It turns out that the two are just pretending having a fight.  But the happy moments turn awkward when both realizes that they are looking at each other's lips, probably remembering the intimate moments they had in the forest.  Surprising them is Gon who was ordered by the master to check on them.  As soon as they see Gon, Kang Chi and Yeo Wool’s quarrel resumes and splits to different direction.
Yeo Wool proceeds to her room. She remembers her agreement with Kang Chi on their way home.  She suggests pretending having a fight until her father lifts her from being locked in.  She also asked Kang Chi to keep their encounter with Wol Ryeong a secret.  When Kang Chi asks her, she couldn’t admit the reason.  Kang Chi said he doesn’t feel like protecting a father who hurts him so much.  Still, Kang Chi gives in to Yeo Wool’s requests.

In the kitchen, Kang Chi is thinking the same string of thoughts.  He gets surprised to see Master Gong Dal when he turns around.  The master asks him if he thinking of a woman because he is smiling.  Kang Chi explains that he and Yeo Wool fought. The wise man teases Kang Chi for being so obvious.  Then Master Gong Dal shows sign of weakness and asks for his medicine.  Seeing the master’s condition, Kang Chi apologizes for his father’s actions and for not being able to protect the master.
But the wise man tells the young guy that he should not feel guilty of the things that are not even his fault.  Now that Kang Chi can somehow control his divine power even without the bracelet, Master Gong Dal asks him about his plans.  He reminds Kang Chi that once he can control his power, he wil leave to look for the Gu Family Book.

Meanwhile, Jo Kwan Woong receives a huge valuable from the Japanese group but is having second thoughts if he will receive it.  Jang Ryeong asks him why should he risk their relationship over a slave when he can become a governor.

Choi Ma Reum eavesdrops on Jo Kwan Woong’s room.  He then runs to Park Tae Seo to feed the information.  Park Tae Seo thinks Jo Kwan Woong is not just selling information to the Japanese, but the nation as well.

At the academy, Kang Chi is trying to practice with the rest of the brothers but ends up hitting one of them because he doesn’t know the basics.  Gon tells him to stop joking around but Kang Chi seriously wants to train.  However, Gon tells him to learn to control his powers so he could leave to find the Gu Family Book.  Kang Chi said he wants to meet the other two masters so he could learn but Gon explains they are not someone that one can find easily just because one wants to find them.  The conversation of the two ends up in a challenge but didn't prosper when Park Tae Seo arrives in the academy.

Park Tae Seo reports to Master Dam with Kang Chi.  He informed them about Ja Hong Myeong, the leader of the Goon Bon merchants, who wants to buy and free Park Tae Seo from Jo Kwan Woon.  Then he explains the retired officer’s possible connection with the Japanese and his underlying reasons of helping them – to gain the governor post in the southern province!  Master Dam relays the report to the Admiral.  He also advises that the some students will sneak in to the Hundred Year Inn immediately to find out the plans of the Japanese merchants.

Yeo Wool gets frustrated that she will be left out of the mission.  When she asks Gon about Kang Chi, Yeo Wool learns that her father finds no reason to send Kang Chi to the inn.  Then Teacher Yeo Joo, who seemed flushed upon seeing Gon, tells Yeo Wool that Park Tae Seo is looking for her.

Park Tae Seo and Yeo Wool meet in the pavilion.  Tae Seo asks him how she is.  Yeo Wool tells him about the lock in and her exclusion from being part of the mission at the inn.  However, Tae Seo agrees on this part saying although it is an abrupt decision of Master Dam, Yeo Wool is still his fiancé.  Tae Seo adds the marriage agreement maybe hasty but Master Dam has given him the reason to live and that is Yeo Wool.  Meanwhile, Kang Chi is looking at Tae Seo and Yeo Wool.  He didn’t know that behind him stands Gon.  When he walked past him, Gon tells Kang Chi that wherever he is now is the farthest he can go towards Yeo Wool.  He adds that it would be good for Kang Chi not to go any further.  Kang Chi tries to make excuses using their fake fights but Gon said he is not an idiot to fall for such crap.  He stressed that Kang Chi and Yeo Wool will eventually get hurt so he should give up.  But Kang Chi reminds Gon that Yeo Wool hates giving up before getting started and he will not do what Yeo Wool hates.

Alone in the kitchen, Kang Chi feels down as he remembers Gon’s words.  Then Yeo Wool enters the quarters telling him the plan about the investigation at the Hundred Year Inn.  Yeo Wool brags that she is the best in investigation while Kang Chi knows the entire inn, which should give Kang Chi a hint on what his girl wants to happen.  But all he asked was Park Tae Seo.  Yeo Wool asks him how did he know about Tae Seo.  With Kang Chi avoiding her eyes, Yeo Wool realizes that Kang Chi is jealous.  She assures her him there is nothing to be jealous of.

Kang Chi said he honestly don’t know because in his life, he never had someone to call his mine.  In his mind, Kang Chi is not sure if its okay to have such feelings for Yeo Wool.  But what Kang Chi couldn’t say, Yeo Wool answered.  The lady said he is not the only who feels the same.  She adds that it is her first time to have such feelings, too.  And in a soft voice, Yeo Wool then asks Kang Chi what are his plans for the night.  Kang Chi stammered prompting Yeo Wool to clear his mind saying she is referring about the mission and nothing else!

Kang Chi eavesdrops on Gon and the team who will be joining the mssion as they workout a plan while Yeo Wool convinces teacher Yeo Joo to go out in the streets to get some fresh air, buy some rice cakes and browse.  The teacher refused but Yeo Wool threatens her on a sweet tone that she might tie her up Yeo Joo again if she will not allow her.  In the market, Yeo Joo teaches the young lady about fabrics when the latter discreetly hits the table to fall.  She then escapes from her teacher who was busy helping the vendors fix their table.  As soon as she changed her clothes, Yeo Wool is surprised to see Park Chung Jo and Gop Dan behind her.

Gon finds out that Yeo Wool is out on the streets with her teacher.  This prompted him to check on Kang Chi whom he learned left as well and will be coming home late.  Worse, Gon receives reports that some uniforms for the mission are missing.

Yeo Wool asks Chung Jo how is she but the latter reveals her life as a gisaeng is bitter.  Chung Jo asks about Kang Chi.  Yeo Wool reveals that he is doing his best in the training and is getting used to the academy.  Chung Jo sarcastically tells Yeo Wool that she is having a good time and that Kang Chi is indeed good at making people happy and excited. To make others miserable, Park Chung Jo tells Yeo Wool that once Kang Chi gives his heart to someone, it won’t go away.  She boasts that if she calls for him now, he will not refuse.

A sad Yeo Wool is walking when she sees Kang Chi standing in their supposed meeting spot.  She is staring at Kang Chi when the latter sees him. He gladly approach the young lady.  When the night comes, Yeo Wool and Kang Chi join the mission in spite of Gon’s objections.  However, the two manage to leave Gon without a choice.

While the gisaengs perform for the Japanese delegates, Kang Chi tells the group where to go.  The mission is getting tense when Kang Chi, after wearing his mask and is about to enter the storage, was approached by ninjas. He was almost caught when one of them asked him what he was doing outside. Fortunately, Yeo Wool taught him two Japanese words – Hai and Ano.  However, the answer he gave doesn’t seem appropriate to the Japanese’s question.  When they all entered the storage room, Kang Chi is shocked to see more than a dozen ninjas inside.  Then Kegishima walks in and orders everyone to bring it out.  Some ninjas approach the table and try to connect the pieces of paper.  Apparently, these are not just usual papers because when it was attached together, it revealed a map!

The problem arise when one of the ninjas raise his suspicion of a spy among them.  Kegishima orders the door be locked and everyone to take off their masks.  All ninjas obliged except one – Kang Chi. With his mission almost failed, Kang Chi turns his back then face the ninjas again as the transformed Kang Chi!  Shocked, the ninjas didn’t know how would they react to the creature in front them.  Kang Chi takes this opportunity, hits everyone then run away with the map!

In another part of the Hundred Year Inn, Jo Kwan Woong together with Chun Soo Ryun is so eager to see the face of Ja Hong Myeong because they want to find out if she is Yoon Seo Hwa.  Jo Kwan Woong will turn over Park Tae Seo’s slave contract if the head of Goon Bon group will show her face.  She did. Or her substitute did.

Kang Chi runs to escape.  He sees a room without any light and proceeds to it.  Little did he know that Ja Hong Myeong is inside! Will the two find out about their relationship to each other?
