GU FAMILY BOOK (Episode 3)

Monk Sojung runs to the forest and discovers Seo Hwa gave birth to a boy.  Here, Sojung admits to Seo Hwa that he told Gu Wol Ryung to kill her in case he fails to become human and counters the curse of becoming a thousand year demon.  Sojung believes that since Seo Hwa has moved the heart of Wol Ryung after a thousand years, the latter could not probably save himself and kill the one he loves. He handed the dagger to Seo Hwa.  

The following day, Sojung is reading Seo Hwa’s letter. It says how much feeble and weak a human can become and that she pushed her loved one to death.  She even asked that she should not be forgiven for all the sins she made.  All she wanted was for her son to grow like an ordinary human being unlike his father, a lonely mythical creature protecting the forest.  While Sojung is reading this letter, Seo Hwa is in the village aiming to kill Lord Jo Gwan Woong using Wol Ryung’s dagger.  Seo Hwa stabs the vicious officer but she was stabbed as well by a guard. 

Meanwhile, a picnic led by businessman Park Mu Sol is happening at the river of Mt. Jiri.  Amidst the celebration, he hears a baby crying and discovers a crib drifting in the river!  The scene is similar to that of Moses who was found floating in the river in the Old Testament. But instead of being rescued by handmaids, Seo Hwa and Wol Ryung’s child falls into the hands of a kind-hearted man named Park Mu Sol.  

Then Su Jong arrives telling Park Mu Sol that he has found a lucky bundle of joy and good fortunes will come his way if he keeps the baby.  Further, Su Jong puts a magical bracelet that repels evil on the baby and tells Park Mu Sol that no one should take off the bracelet until the child reaches 20.   Hearing such good fortunes, men present at the picnic baptizes the child with a name – Kang for river and Chi for abandoned. 

The legend of the abandoned child in the river and the nobleman is being told on the streets.  It has become a great story to inspire children and townsfolk.  The nobleman man accepted the child and has become one of the top wealthy businessmen in the land.  He is the owner of the Hundred Year Inn.  When one of the listeners of this legend asks what happened to the infant, the story now turns to Kang Chi – Choi Kang Chi.

He is a free-spirited, kindhearted, at times ill-tempered and immature young man who often gets in trouble with bully and gangster Ma Bong-chool because he seeks justice for the opressed.

When Bong-chool and his gang try to make a scene in the Hundred Year Inn in search of Kang Chi. Park Tae Seo, son of Park Mu Sol, try to pacify him but when the two enemies meet, things went out of control. Unfortunately, a marriage meeting is happening at the back of the Hundred Year Inn where the room of Park Chung Jo, the daughter of Mu Sol, is located.  Park Chung Jo, Kang Chi’s childhood sweetheart and first love, will be soon married to an assistant minister. The fight between Bong Chool and Kang Chi reached the house where the marriage meeting is taking place, annoying further Mu Sol’s wife, Lady Yoon.  Since Kang Chi arrived in their home, Yoon never liked her.  Kang Chi’s closeness to Chung Jo added fire to her annoyance.  The chaos stopped when Park Mu Sol arrived.  

Following orders from Park Mu Sol, Kang Chi begs forgiveness to Bong Chool who receives money as part of their deal prior to their fight.  He was also ordered to stay on his knees until he realizes his faults.  In the evening, Park Chung Jo approaches the hungry Kang Chi, who is still on his knees.  She gives Kang Chi an apple and the two discuss the importance of her upcoming marriage.  Kang Chi tries to convince that he can do better and can even protect the whole family but Chung Jo believes strength is not always important.  When Kang Chi asks if Chung Jo likes him, the young lady gives the happy-go-lucky boy a kiss on his cheek putting Kang Chi into heaven!

 

But Lady Yoon saw them from afar.  Because it is still a month before Kang Chi turns 20 and leaves the inn, Lady Yoon plans to kick him out soon.  When opportunity came, she orders some guards to kick him out of the inn.  Kang Chi tries to escape reaching the forest but the guards followed him.  The guards ganged up on Kang Chi but the latter fights well until a powder was sprayed on him causing him to get weak.

Earlier in the afternoon, Dam Yeo Wool asks a palm reader if there is a man destined for her.  But the old woman thinks he is a man saying she is no good. But when she admits her identity, the more the fortune-teller tells that she has no luck because no man would be interested to a girl who poses like a man.  Saddened by the idea that she will never find her match, Dam Yeo Wool refuses comfort from her friend and guardian Gon.  Then Sojung, seated on the next table, butts in and tells her that everyone has someone destined to love him/her.  Dam Yeo Wool asks Sojung to do palm reading to which the monk obliged.  But Sojung only tells Dam Yeo Wool to avoid the person fated to love her.  Sujong added that she should avoid the sign and the man she will soon meet.

In the evening, Dam Yeo Wool and Gon had just finished spying on the vicious Bi Joo (Jo Gwan woong), who is responsible for a number of murders in the southern province, when they heard a commotion at the forest. Dam Yeo-wool sees Choi Kang Chi being ganged up by the guards.  She protects him and even dragged him to escape. The guards were about to follow when Gon appeared and stopped them. 

Yeo Wool and Kang Chi were running when the young lady’s hat was blown by the wind letting her hair to fall.  With a blurry vision, Kang Chi thinks it was Chung Jo.  The two stopped when a guard from the inn suddenly appeared in front of them.  Still quick with his senses despite his condition, Kang Chi moves around using Yeo Wool’s sword to kill the guard.  

Then Kang Chi promises that he will protect Yeo wool before he lost consciousness and falls on Yeo Wool’s shoulder.  Then Yeo Wool suddenly sees the crescent moon hanging above the peach tree – a sign she was told she must not see to avoid the man destined for her!
