GU FAMILY BOOK EPISODE 16

Choi Kang Chi is seeing face to face the man – er mythical creature – that is set to kill him.  He is Wol Ryeong.  His biological father.  Wol Ryeong made his presence known in the evening when Kang Chi is guarding the academy on a night shift duty.

Wol Ryeong asks if he is Seo Hwa’s son and if he is looking for the Gu Family Book.  Kang Chi replied that he was told he is the son of Seo Hwa and he is looking for the book.  Wol Ryeong asks if Dam Yeo Wool is his reason, Kang Chi should forget about the book.
Wol Ryeong offers a deal that if Kang Chi will give up living as human being and become a mythical being, he will spare his life.  Kang Chi questions Wol Ryeong on his plans to become human.  Wol Ryeong tells him he knows but the young man reveals he doesn’t want to acknowledge it and orders his father to get out of his sight and never come back. But Kang Chi is surprised how fast Wol Ryeong pressed him at the same strangles him on the wall.

Wol Ryeong gives Kang Chi an unsolicited advice.  He said that trusting humans only bring betrayals, humans will never accept and believe him; and they will exclude him for being different and lastly, humans will hurt him.  Wol Ryeong adds that it will be his last warning.  Kang Chi asks if Wol Ryeong wants him to be like his father who lives alone, never getting sick, never getting old, never dying, living a long life, becoming a monster in the forest and all alone without seeing the one he loves.  Kang declines saying his dream is to live like a human.

Then master Gong Dal appears behind them.  The master is proud of what Kang Chi’s answers to his father.  Then master Gong Dal dares the mythical being despite Kang Chi’s plea that he should not come near them.  But Wol Ryeong already attacked the master.  Kang Chi’s scream was heard all over the academy.  Yeo Wool wants to find out what’s happening to Kang Chi but her teacher blocks her path.
Kang Chi removes his bracelet causing Wol Ryeong to stop from killing the master and convince Kang Chi to become like him or he will kill everyone related to him.  When Kang Chi attacks him, Wol Ryeong disappears!
Kang Chi immediately checks on the master. Gong Dal is hardly breathing prompting Kang Chi to hurt himself and let his blood flow into the master’s wounds on the neck.
But while Kang Chi is trying to save the master, Dam Pyeong Joon puts his sword on Kang Chi’s neck.  He is surrounded by the brothers with swords aiming at him.  The academy thinks he is responsible for injuring Master Gong Dal.  Kang Chi let go when he knew that Master Gong Dal’s wound is already healed.

Park Tae Seo meanwhile comes face to face with the woman who is a special guest at the inn.  The woman, who already removed her covers, offers drinks and wants to take turns in asking questions with Tae Seo.  She said she is also curious about him just as he is curious about her.

At the academy, Gon reports to Yeo Wool that Kang Chi attacked Master Gong Dal.  But Yeo Wool couldn’t believe it.  Gon said Gong Dal was badly hurt and Kang Chi, who is in his mythical form, was seen next to him.  The brothers are very much concerned about Kang Chi’s presence in the academy.  They are pleading to Dam Pyeong Joon to kick him out when the Admiral arrives to check on Master Gong Dal.
Meanwhile, Kang Chi is in a big room surrounded by the other students.  He couldn't no longer contain it, he wants to see the master.  He stands up and tries to clear his path but he remembers what Yeo Wool told him before that the brothers in the academy need time to accept you.  Then they heard an order for everyone to step aside.  Kang Chi sees the admiral with the Master Dam, Gon and the brothers.

In a room, the Admiral confronts Kang Chi asking him what he did to master Gong Dal.  But Kang Chi clarifies that it wasn’t him.  The Admiral, however, reiterates that all evidence points at him.  Kang Chi remembers what his father told him that humans will never believe him.
He asks the Admiral if he doesn’t believe him as well because he is not human and different from others.   The official answered that he wants to know who is responsible.  Kang Chi adds that the Admiral suspects him unless he can prove his innocence.  Then the two talks about trust.  The Admiral lectures that trust doesn’t fall from the sky in one day.  He adds if the people don’t trust one person yet, it is because this person hasn’t built up a good relationship with others yet.
The officer adds that the weight of trust is the weight of one’s relationship.  He stressed that if he wants to be trusted, learn first to get along with others.  Same thing what Master Gong Dal told him some time ago.

When Kang Chi leaves the room, he sees the rest of the academy waiting on what will happen to him.  Kang Chi begs for another chance but Master Dam tells him the brothers are afraid of him.  Teary-eyed, Kang Chi reveals that the bell game is still on and he still have five remaining bells to protect.  He confirms his voluntary separation with the academy if he fails to protect the bells.

Yeo Wool is sewing when she sees her teacher sleeping.  Next thing you know, the teacher is already tied with her mouth covered and Yeo Wool is wearing again her usual male clothing.  She apologizes to her before she escapes through the window!
Yeo Wool immediately goes to where Kang Chi is.  Yeo Wool drags Kang Chi at the kitchen saying she just sneaked out.  Yeo Wool asks Kang Chi a number of questions  - is Kang Chi okay? Is Master Gong Dal badly hurt? Why was Kang Chi in that area? Did Master Dam scold him?
Kang Chi is there watching her intently.  He answers back by asking how her ankle is.  Yeo Wool tells Kang Chi it is okay but the latter reminds her that once twisted; it is easier to be twisted next time. He tells her not to run and to be careful to which Yeo Wool agrees.  Then, the exchange of sweet talks follows.

Kang Chi reassures Yeo Wool that Gong Dal will be okay and that he still has five bells left to protect even though the entire academy wants him kicked out.  Then another bell falls because Gon is behind Kang Chi.  He thinks Gon deserves it for calling out Yeo Wool but the latter clarifies that she sneaked out.  Kang Chi brags that’s how Yeo Wool cares for him.
Gon orders Yeo Wool to go back to her room.  He will pretend he didn’t see anything.  Yeo Wool agrees but requests for a little more time when her teacher Madam Yeo Joo arrives to fetch her.

The Admiral tells Dam Pyeong Joon that he will take care of Choi Kang Chi, the rest of the masters should focus on what Jo Kwan Woong and the Japanese guests at the inn want.
The Admiral sent some feelers of a confrontation with Jo Kwan Woong who wants to do it at the inn.  The Admiral agrees to do it.

Master Gong Dal wakes up and tells something to e.  At the kitchen, Seung sees Kang Chi alone.  Then Kang Chi gets an idea to check if Seung can grab the broomstick.  He did.
When Kang Chi asks him, Seung tells about substance.  Then he explains that the substance is him, the one controlling the broom. Amidst their conversation, Kang Chi finds out that the Admiral is in danger because of him.

Kang Chi confronts Gon for not telling him about the rumor.  Gon tells him that he couldn’t even win the hearts of the people at the academy, what more in the village.  But Kang Chi has a plan to stop the rumors and save the admiral.  He asks Gon if he can help him.  The brothers, however, suggest that they should not help Kang Chi.  To pacify the brothers, Kang Chi pulls out his belt and offers it to Gon saying if he endangers the Admiral, regardless of how many bells are still in the belt, he will leave the academy and will not set foot in the school or meet anyone of them including Yeo Wool.

Gon calls out for Madam Yeo Joo for a talk.  Then Seung sneaks in to Yeo Wool’s room to relay a message.  Dam Pyeong Joon gets the report that Kang Chi went down to the village.  He was about to accost Gon for not stopping Kang Chi when Master Gong Dal arrives to talk to him.  Gong Dal tells everything to Pyeong Joon.
Yeo Wool, meanwhile, managed to sneak out of the academy but was blocked by a number of brothers at the gate.

Park Cheong Jo is at the market when she and Gop Dan noticed some villagers rushing towards a certain direction.  Ma Bong Chool also noticed the commotion.
Little did they know that Choi Kang Chi is out walking along and people are gossiping about him.  Then Kang Chi stops.  Knowing he is getting everybody’s attention, he invites everyone to follow him if they want to find out if he really is the son of a gumiho.  Ma Bong Chool tries to stop him but couldn’t so he supports Kang Chi instead.
Kang Chi invites everyone to gather in front of the Hundred Year Inn to find out if the rumors are true or not.  Cheong Jo and Bong Chool, both know the truth, are bothered by this announcement.

Meanwhile, the Admiral has arrived at the Hundred Year Inn to talk to Jo Kwan Woon to discuss issues on Kang Chi.  The Admiral asks Jo Kwan Woong if Kang Chi is a big threat to the retired officer that he had to stir up further the public.
More so, the Admiral tells Jo Kwan Woong that he sees Kang Chi as a monster because the former officer himself is a monster at heart.  He warns Jo Kwan Woong watch his misdoings or he will use military law to keep the peace and order in the land.  Jo Kwan Woong retaliates by asking the importance of military fund, food rations and iron-clad ships when there is no war to use it for.  The Admiral tells Jo Kwan Woong that the ship is a top secret in the navy.  The intense conversation of two was interfered with Choi Kang Chi’s voice.

Eokman and Choi Ma Reum together with the rest of the servants appeared at the gate of the Hundred Year Inn. They talk to Kang Chi who claims that he cannot just let go of the nasty rumors about him.

Then the Admiral and Jo Kwan Woong with his deputy appeared on the gate.  The Admiral asks Kang Chi not to make any trouble.
But Kang Chi tells the naval officer that this is the most trust he can show to someone who have been protecting him to keep him from danger.
Kang Chi asks Jo Kwan Woong what will it take him to acknowledge that he is not a son of a gumiho but the son of Choi Ma Reum, the head servant.

Jo Kwan Woong orders him to remove his bracelet because it prevents Kang Chi from transforming into a monster.  Jo Kwan Woong dares him to take it off.

Choi Kang Chi is all set to remove his bracelet.  However, he looks around to check if Dam Yeo Wool is present.  None.
He looks at his bracelet hoping to buy time.  Bong Chool and Cheong Jo are anxious.  The latter is set to stop Kang Chi when Yeo Wool walked past her!  Yeo Wool arrives and calls out Kang Chi!  Kang Chi smiles now that Yeo Wool is with him.  The two are looking at each other, understanding perfectly what they need to do.
The young couple are interrupted by Jo Kwan Woong’s challenges Kang Chi to prove his identity.  Then Choi Kang Chi takes off his bracelet!

Heavy winds encircle the crowd. Then they see Kang Chi just like everybody else – normal.  In his thoughts, Kang Chi said he doesn’t know why he never transforms when Yeo Wool is next to him.

Everybody is relieved that Kang Chi is a normal person except for Jo Kwan Woong.  His deputy then attacks Kang Chi but gets blocked by Gon who suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
His brothers from the academy arrive followed by master Dam Pyeong Joon who announces that Kang Chi is a trainee in the academy and will not forgive anyone who will use the sword to kill him without a just reason.  Jo Kwan Woong retreats back inside the Hundred Year Inn.

Choi Kang Chi thank Yeo Wool while the Admiral, before leaving, commends him for his courageous act but requests to inform him in advance the next time he do it again.

Master Dam Pyeong Joon asks Kang Chi why he did such a dangerous thing so he sent Yeo Wool.  Kang Chi said he trusts the master’s loyalty to the Admiral.  The master tells him that they should talk more later.
Then he turns to his daughter saying Yeo Wool must ready to be punished for sneaking out. Kang Chi and Yeo Wool are left in the middle of the street with smiles on their faces.  Cheong Jo and Tae Seo are far from them, looking on with a bit of jealousy on their faces.

At the academy, Gon presents to the brothers Kang Chi’s belt with its remaining bells.  He asks the brothers to raise their hands if they want Kang Chi out of the academy.  He will remove the bells according to the number of hands.
Two hands raised and two bells were removed from the belt.  Seung, however, couldn’t take it anymore and asks the brothers to stop and defends Kang Chi.  He asks everyone how they can still misunderstand Kang Chi who just protected Master Gong Dal.  After Seung’s explanation, Gon asks everyone again, when no one raises their hands, Kang Chi asks for his belt back.  But before Gon gives it back, the master pulls another bell saying it is his vote because he still wants Kang Chi to move out.
Before everyone leaves, Kang Chi thank them for letting him stay.  He also thank Seung for defending him.  Seung said that he is now one of the beans.
Later, Kang Chi gives the sack of beans to Master Gong Dal. But the master didn’t acknowledge if his answer is right or wrong.

At the Choon Hwa Gwan, the head mistress talks to one of the servants who assisted Japanese merchant Ja Hong Myeong.  She learned that the guest has a gisaeng tattoo and clawmarks on her back.

Meanwhile, Park Tae Seo is having a meeting with the Japanese merchant.  He asks what is her condition in helping Tae Seo retrieve the Hundred Year Inn to which the merchant’s reply is that Tae Seo becomes his son.

At the academy, Yeo Wool is sewing when she sees her teacher sleeping.  She takes advantage of the situation again.  Madam Yeo Joo wakes up being thrown to bed, all tied with her mouth covered!  Yeo Wool, wearing her usual male uniform, begs for forgiveness. Then she escapes to meet Kang Chi!

Kang Chi is standing with a smile on his face. When he sees Yeo Wool, his smile widens even more.  Yeo Wool approaches her and asks him why he wanted to see her.  Kang Chi shows a piece of bell in his hand, which means he will not be kicked out of the school!

In this little gesture, Kang Chi is simply celebrating his stay in school with Yeo Wool.  However, their sweet rendezvous suddenly gets interrupted when some brothers are on walking towards them.  Since no one must know they are together, the young couple hides in the bushes.

With just the two of them in one corner, it seems Kang Chi now has a chance to kiss Yeo Wool!  Slowly, Kang Chi holds her shoulders, holds her hands and moves her closer to him while Yeo Wool closes her eyes preparing for the most awaited kiss.  Kang Chi is just a few inches away from Yeo Wool’s lips!

Then Seung calls Kang Chi! While Seung is shouting, searching for Kang Chi, Yeo Wool gestures for Kang Chi to go after Seung.  Kang Chi refuses but Yeo Wool pushed him!  Seung sees Kang Chi coming out of the bush.  He tells Kang Chi that the master is looking for him.  Kang Chi signals Seung to go ahead and he will follow soon.

Kang Chi looks relieved that they were not caught but at the same time looks disappointed because of the interruption.  Yeo Wool understands the situation.  She tells Kang Chi to go ahead since her father is looking for him.  Kang Chi walks ahead, stops and turns back to Yeo Wool.  Kang Chi holds Yeo Wool’s shoulders with intensity and tells her - sadly just - to sleep well.
Then Kang Chi walks towards inside the academy leaving Yeo Wool behind.  Unknown to him, someone kidnaps Yeo Wool.

While in a meeting with the master, Madam Yeo Joo barges in telling them that Yeo Wool is missing despite thorough search.
Kang Chi tells everyone that she should be in her room already.  Kang Chi runs to their meeting place, where she had last seen Yeo Wool. She is not there.  Then Kang Chi steps on to the bell she gave to Yeo Wool.
He remembers Wol Ryeong and his threat to kill all the people connected to him.
Will Kang Chi rescue Yeo Wool in time?  Will Kang Chi forgive his father if Wol Ryeong is the real culprit of the kidnapping? Is death inevitable for this young couple?
